Marcus Anthony Hunter
Professor, Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Division of the Social Sciences
Dr. Marcus Anthony Hunter is the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Division of the Social Sciences, Professor of Sociology, and served as the Inaugural chair of the department of African American Studies at UCLA. He is author of three books: Black Citymakers: How The Philadelphia Negro Changed Urban America (Oxford University Press, 2013), Chocolate Cities: The Black Map of American Life (University of California Press, 2018) coauthored with Zandria F. Robinson, and The New Black Sociologists (Routledge, 2018).
Dr. Marcus Anthony Hunter is the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Division of the Social Sciences, Professor of Sociology and Professor of African American Studies. He is author of three awarding winning books: Black Citymakers: How The Philadelphia Negro Changed Urban America (Oxford University Press, 2013), Chocolate Cities: The Black Map of American Life (University of California Press, 2018) coauthored with Zandria F. Robinson, and The New Black Sociologists (Routledge, 2018). Inaugural Chair of the department of African American Studies at UCLA (2017-2020), his research has benefited from grants from the National Science Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. In addition, Hunter’s research and commentary on urban black life and inequality has been featured in journals and news media such as CSPAN's BookTV, the Du Bois Review, Current Anthropology, City & Community, Sexuality Research & Social Policy, Talking Points Memo, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times.
