Alumni & Friends

Welcome to the expanded web page dedicated to the more than 18,000 alumni and friends of the Sociology department. You are primary examples of our department’s uncompromising commitment to excellence in education, research, and community involvement!

UCLA’s Sociology department consistently ranks among the country’s top departments in the discipline. Most recently, US News and World Report ranked comparative historical sociology at UCLA number one in the nation.  Our faculty occupy national and international leadership positions and have earned the highest recognition from professional associations, including the American Sociological Association, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Our diverse graduate and undergraduate students exhibit excellence in their research and study. And you, the alumni and friends of the department, can put sociology into practice to make a difference.

There are many ways to get involved in the life of the department. You can use this space to keep up with the cutting edge of sociology research and its impact on the community, as well as a forum in which to network and exchange ideas. We are always interested in hearing from you about how sociology makes a difference in your life. And please contact us if you would like to volunteer to talk to our undergraduate students about life after university.

As well as your involvement, we also need your support. We are fiercely committed to public education despite the fact that state funding for UCLA continues to decline. Your donation will help the most promising undergraduate and graduatestudents reach their educational goals.  You can read here about the many invaluable ways your contributions have helped sociology students in the past few years. I invite you to explore the website and to stay in touch.

Best wishes,
