Biography

My research interests revolve around the relationships between cultural politics and nation-building processes, both for international and domestic consumption.

In my master’s thesis, I am looking at how nation-states manage their reputation through the tourist industry. I take  Puerto Rico’s reputation management process during the 1948-1970 period as a case study. Namely, I look at how Puerto Rico’s particular racial dynamics and political status (both that stem from its colonial legacies) influence how state actors create and contest national narratives for tourists.
