My research focuses on the socialization and communication practices of deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) children in a spoken-language preschool classroom. I use a combination of ethnographic interviews and Conversation Analysis to examine the ways in which DHH children, educators, and parents understand and reinforce certain ideological beliefs and attitudes about spoken language and its use in social life.
Subfield: Conversation Analysis, Ethnography, childhood socialization, early childhood education
