Biography

Amber D. Villalobos is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of California – Los Angeles and a student affiliate of the California Center for Population Research.  Her research examines race and class differentials in access and returns to education and the implications of these differentials for social stratification, inequality, and mobility. She is particularly concerned with understanding how educational experiences affect one’s life chances. Current projects examine: teacher effects on students of different backgrounds at the K-12 level; effects of high school experiences on college chances and the transition to adulthood; and the effects of college completion on family formation and single parenthood in particular.
